For British citizens and their families residing in Italy

With the ratification and entry into force of the Withdrawal Agreement, during the transition period, which started on 1 February 2020 until 1 January 2021, EU law has been applicable to and in the United Kingdom, in accordance with Part IV of the Agreement and more specifically Article 127.

At the end of the transition period, the Agreement on the Withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union provides special protection for British citizens and their family members who have exercised their free movement rights in Italy by 31 December 2020.

Starting from 1 January 2021, those entitled may apply for the new residence document following the guidelines summed up in the vademecum published on the Interior Ministry website. 
In order to speed up formalities for the issuance of the digital document, a special electronic mailbox has been set up at all police headquarters (Questure) making it possible to book an appointment at the local immigration office so as to start the procedure.
